Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Evening

If you connect a number of solar panels togther in series you can increase the voltage i.e 3 @ 3 volts = 9v.

Does the same increase apply to the amps?

Also if you did a mix and match do you get an average of the total or the collective?
My middle name is luck mind you my first is bad!

If you look closely at a commercial solar panel you will see it has a number of individual cells connected in series to get a suitable terminal voltage.
On the bigger panels you might spot two series strings of cells connected in parallel, you get twice the current of a single series string of cells. You also get a better shade tolerance as if one cell in one string is shaded the other string will still put out power.

You should be able to get your answer from this and what was said in the message above.

Thanks for that - needed a quick sanity check.

The bid panels are still far to expensive so been building my own by buying smaller (affordable) panels and connectign them togther. As you can imagine the Wattage is low with the crap amps. What I intended to do was add some high ampage panels to the mix to bump it up but needed to know (which I do Know!) which way to connect them

cheers all - all I need know is some sun!
