Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hey, Aargee,

I was software librarian of CCUG(Q) for a while.

I still have my Amiga(s) (2000/030 x 2, and A500)
Never did get a C64, though.

Ah, the memories.

Yes, I guessed as much. I was the Amiga coordinator for a while...
For crying out loud, all I wanted to do was flash this blasted LED.

In 1985 my mother was doing accountancy. Part of her studies was in computer science and sometimes I would go to uni with her while she studied and submitted assignments and during this time she taught me a bit about BASIC.
I can't remember the first computer i used at school was but in 1988 we had a room full of Micro Bee computers. I miss those times!

Hi,

Thought I'd just throw a spanner into the works as the youngest so far!
This is my first post on this forum, and although I technically haven't actually built the thing yet... it will be done soon!

As for my background, my first experience with a BASIC computer was my Pa's VZ300, although I had no idea what it actually was then. I was 11 when I bought an old windows 3.11 laptop for about $2, on which I found QBASIC and started to teach myself.

Welcome aboard Sean,

Yes you certainly have thrown a spanner in the works and upset all the grand fathers this site of the Brisbane line, and the other side of it too for that matter.

Hope you get the MM together soon, and join in the real fun.

Watch out for grumpy old men.

An old man gets on a crowded bus and no one gives him a seat. As the bus shakes and rattles, the old man's cane slips on the floor and he falls.

As he gets up, a seven-year-old kid, sitting nearby, turns to him and says, "If you put a little rubber thingy on the end of your stick, it wouldn't slip."

The old man snaps back, "Well, if your daddy did the same thing seven years ago, I would have a seat today."

Cheers Don...

Hello everyone

I just joined your group because of my interrest in the Maximite. I have build and upgraded the firware but I am stuck with the UPS driver for the Maximite. Cant get a glue about from anywhere, Silicon Chip, Goeff's site and searched this forum with various search criterias without success.
My interrest in the maximite comes mainly from may PLC work. A lot of things are rather difficult with PLC's and Maximite would fill the gap for me (when I have full controll of it). One of my main project at the moment is Lith-Ion batteries from my e-bikes develop problems and I have to localize weak cells in a pack. Multi voltage readings with time stamps are required for this and I hope the Maximite will do this for me.
I am in my sixties and have used Vic20, Commodore computers for fun, games (Pacman was my favourit)and bussiness. Reconciliation of Bank accounts and printing invoices was the first task on it. Database was not feasable then with 5 1/4 disk and later 3.5.
Just a short introduction of myself and hope somebody can but me in the right direction for this USB driver.

Welcome aboard Alf,
Good to see a younger member joining the group.

Please check out the age poll and others at:
http://www.themaximitecomputer.com/maximite-age-demographics -poll/

UPS driver for the Maximite??

I guess you mean:
Windows Serial Port Driver (for connection to the Maximite via USB - Windows only)

down the bottom of Geoff's page at:

http://geoffg.net/maximite.html

Good luck with it,

Cheers Don...

Thanks Don

I have been there and found nothing in it to resamble a driver. Shortly before your message I had a bright idea and extended the search for the wizard driver installer to the complete c:/ drive and low and behold it found it and succesfully installed. Now I have to manage the next step how to comunicate from the Laptop to the Maximite.
One thing at a time.

Regards
Alf

Alf, got to www.putty.org and download the putty terminal emulator.

You will need to then go to the device manager on your PC and have a look in the section for ports and work out which COM port has been allocated to the Maximite.

Then start up putty and select serial. You will find a section to select the com port.

Pop your com port number in there and you should be off and running.

Thank you stuarts. I was fishing around for a terminal emulator and I have one on my old PC but cant find the disk for it anymore. Live gets complicated with all that changes in technology.

Curious, you could also look at Teraterm. I've not used it but it has its advocates here.

Hello Stuart
Thank you for your advice and may I have a bit more of it.
My main interrest with the Maximite at the moment is recording the discharge of a lith-ion pack of 10 cells. I have to find the weakest link in the pack and replace them but Liht-ion's are dangerous to handle without electronic controller which is included in the batterie pack. I have voltages of 4-8-12- etc to 40v. How can I interface this voltages simultanious to the Maximite? The max voltage I can apply to the input pin is 3.3v and I have to use a voltage divider. Is there a better way to do this?
I take it one step at the time and have breaks between my efforts.

Regards

Alf
