WAU program is still active, and SO FAR, W10 has not asked to do another update - yet. EDIT: I am using version 2.1.0.0, which is the latest. Edited 2019-11-27 13:29 by Grogster Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Mine ( wife's ) continues to ask for updates . I was advised here to reinstall ...... But when I try, I get ' need 8 G ' , which she doesn't have left . ( I had it but lost it caving in to an update ) :) Windows has grown to such a cumbersome giant . Which any growth seems to engender ( to some extent ) Even the latest incarnation of the Raspberry Pi , is a step backwards ( in some ways ) for my purpose . Hi hitsware2 You know you can plug in a 16gig or so USB thumb drive & Windows will offer to use it as auxiliary storage. Pretty slow, but I've used that method to update when space is low. Perhaps we need a class action lawsuit against MS for selling stuff that's not fit for purpose - could have billions of respondents... B |

When I had to use an external drive I had a message to ask if I wanted to use the external drive as part of the update - were you offered the same? It said something like "you don't have enough space on the c: drive, do you want to use drive (external) to increase space". B |

Im still happy using Win & and will for as long as I can. Win 10 Makes me Furious. Why the hell they went to this " Apps" garbage from the old system does my head in. It's not an App, it's an Effing PROGRAM! I have a couple of laptops with 10 on them and the first thing I did was put a win 7 interface on them so I could use the damn things. I think windoze has become so inflated because it's trying to be all things to all people. For this person they seem to have dropped programs that I used and subsequently have had to download and install. Meanwhile there is endless crap I'll never need and probably a lot I don't even know is there. I liked the old windows server. Bare sort of Install and then you added in what you wanted. I had never used it before but I loaded it on a couple of Big machines for a business I set up and it was a pretty straightforward and logical learning curve. I have found myself often wanting to go into 7 and change things and the facility isn't there despite the base programs being pretty close. If there were more selectable options at startup the OS could be a fraction of the size it is for most people. It would also run faster if all these background services that will never be needed weren't sitting there chewing resources every time the machine is used and slowing other things that are wanted down to a crawl. |

I wouldn't go for a complete reinstall at this stage. Would it be an option to temporarily move some stuff to external storage, update, clean up & put the "stuff" back? Would be quicker than having to reinstall all the PROGRAMS - AND you would need to wipe everything off the drive anyway to have enough space for the reinstall... If you were going to reinstall Windows over the existing installation it would would double the space needed because this saves the old installation (Windows, Program Files, Users) into a Windows.old folder in case you want to retrieve stuff. Just sayin'... B |
