I'm designing a Picomite PCB and want to add a standard 3.5mm audio jack (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) to allow plugging in "standard" amplified speakers (like those used for PCs).

There are various types of 3.5mm audio connectors for PCBs and I'm trying to figure out which one to use.

Since this is for audio output only, I don't need the kind of jack that senses when something has been plugged in. Just GND, Left and Right audio out is fine.

I need something commonly available and cheap, preferable with a datasheet.

What do you recommend? (Ideal if there is an Eagle library so I don't have to create the part!)

Sparkfun has this Eaglecad part for a largish 3.5mm audio socket:

I have used a footprint with 5 or 6 pins organized as dual-in-line, but I can't find it now.

I don't know what's available to you, but I've been looking at a 4-way unswitched jack from Farnell. These have a data sheet and there seem to be a lot on ebay that look very similar. They are appreciably smaller than the "square" outline ones. You can just ignore the 4th pole.

The sparkfun one might be a bit too big, getting tight on space.

I see looking online there are also other types:

I've used parts like that top photo, but haven't found an eagle part, and have bent and filed pins to get them to fit in evenly spaced holes.

Whats wrong with a surface mount part?
You also don't have to worry about it having the switches, just don't use them.

The part use in the CMM2 is:

3.5mm Stereo Socket.
Switchcraft 35RASMT4BHNTRX (RS 705-1490, Mouser 502-35RASMT4BHNTRX).

Even I can manage to solder it without difficulty!
