Hi All - Introducing the LCDuMite

The LCDuMite is a 44 pin MicroMite processor board mounted to a 16x2 blue LCD display module. On the processor board are 5v and 3.3v regulators, protection diode, PCF8563 RTC with battery, MCP4725 DAC, IR receiver and transmitter, 18B20 temperature sensor, PWM backlight control, programming header, console header, power header, and 26 pin header to bring out the remaining processor pins. A third "Sea of Holes" board may be attached for prototypes, or a custom third board for "production" units. The Sea of Holes board has a barrel connector, protection diode and fuse, 8v regulator, and headers to bring up from the processor board: power, 26 unused processor pins, and display pins in case the display is not used.

Shown here without the Sea of Holes board attached, the LCDuMite is mounted to a prototype board with a PICkit3 for size comparison:

Shown here are a PICkit3, minimal configuration display module, minimal configuration display module with Sea of Holes board, and full board stack with header connectors:

Compact modules may be built and soldered together with straight header pins, or units may be built using header connectors at the expense larger of module size as shown above.

Close-up of the processor board:

Note the one flub-up on the board with the thru-hole resistor as a fix.
The unused processor pins are labeled across the bottom of the board.

I have these for sale either as an unpolluted board, OR with an MX170 pre soldered.

I am yet to get all the other SMDs so at the moment I can't offer fully assembled boards - this will change as soon as I order the necessary.

micromite.org to the rescue!

I really like Lou's concept and wanted to order straight away and found MicroMite.org really quick & easy to use. (I have used them more than once - every time they are quick and have a very high level of customer service)

Automated emails to confirm your order, dispatch emails when the parcel goes out, and I even got a personal email from the Wizard himself

And no - I have nothing at all to do with micromite.org, just in case anyone is wondering - I am just passing on my experience. Not all websites are easy to use, you see!

Good evening Gent's...

Ok, this is "Rev-B" version of the LCDuMite and Sea-O-Holes add-on board...

I fixed the pull-up resistor (r13) for the temp chip, and moved the DAC out of the battery area so you could install it on the top side without hitting it... Also fixed the stacking issue of the power jack on the SOH board hitting the contrast pot (r4) on the MPU board... Fixed the silkscreen stuff and added pin 1 dots on the IC's...

If there is enough interest, I could spin up a version with the better RTC and Fram memory IC's... Any feedback on this stuff would be awesome...!
