Woolies are flogging a gimmick sound card reader..each card produces a n animal sound, the idea being to get pester power I guess !!! Interesting though..I thought the cards were magnetic stripe but they are simple optical/infra red I think. The (large) bar code is was simple enough to guess - lo and behold it looks like rs-232 coding !! A double length start field, then 8/7 bits binary , then a parity bit , then a single stop bit...So I guess all the sounds are in the reader chip and it plays the sound number X when started. So I wonder, the input could rs232 from another source..and maybe the sounds (eeprom ?) can be overwritten ? Hhhhhmmm...any applications ???
