Based on the changes I made to text handling on the 1.8" screen I've retrofitted these to the 2.4" screen - basically converting the pstring function to C. Complete screen write of 8x6 pixel characters (1600 characters on the 240x320 display) has been reduced from over 5 seconds to 660msec.

It should be noted that these screens require both a 5V and 3.3V supply. The backlight doesn't come on with 3.3V.
