Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hugh Buckle has just updated the MMBasic Library on my website with a great new program written by Ray Alger for the Maximite or Colour Maximite. It emulates the ENIGMA M4 machine used by German U-Boats to encrypt messages during the second world war.

A description of the real ENIGMA M4 can be found here (cryptomuseum.com/crypto/enigma/m4) including an authentic WW2 encrypted message which this program will decrypt.

The MMBasic Library can be downloaded from here: http://geoffg.net/maximite.html

The program uses graphics to show what the machine looked like when operating, comes with clear instructions and is worth trying it out.
