This might be an uninformed question, but I tend to get somewhat confused by all this. Which boards has the option of video output, VGA or composite or the like. I know that the original MaxiMite and UBW32 has video output, but are there others?

Thanks!

Peter's(matherp) ARMmite series have colour VGA output. I forget exactly what model, but I know that at least one of Peter's boards has an on-board VGA connector, and there may be more then one. I expect someone else will enlighten us both.

No they don't.
It is the Micromite eXtreme (MMX) range based on the PIC32MZ2048EF that support VGA output at 640x480 resolutuon. VGA is supported on the 100 and 144 pin variants but the only PCB with a built on connector is the 144-pin version. See this thread for details. PCBs are available through micromite.org (no connection) or use the posted gerbers (latest on page 2 of the thread) to make your own.

In addition the Pi-cromite, which is MMBasic running on a Raspberry Pi, supports output to an HDMI screen

The Micromite Companion http://propellerpowered.com/the-micromite-companion/ is a SBC that has a Parallax Propeller chip that handles the VGA, Sound, Keyboard, Mouse and SD card access and a 28 pin MM chip running Basic. Development stopped by the developer in 2014, though there's still plenty of information and programs on the web. There is an Instructable link showing how the MM can be added to a Propeller board.

@ matherp - I stand corrected. I must have been thinking of the MMX.

Anywhere to buy an MMX? I have promised myself never to attempt surface mount soldering again!

I think Picfan has this covered but mine came from here https://micromite.org/ ... also my MMX Nav board (MMX setup purely for GPS etc)

Just occurred to me also... if you want text only (i.e. you just need a bigger display), have a look here for "TellyMate" which will output a straight composite signal... ideal for re-purposing that old flat screen TV used these a couple of times for output on process control systems I have built over the years - dead easy serial input to composite signal.

I think also that Geoff G has a serial terminal thingie that will do much the same... might be wrong but some better brains here will put me right.

Captain, on the micromite.org site, which one is the MicroMite eXtreme? I would need a least SMD pre-soldered. How much does it differ 'in daily use' from the MaxiMite, and will software/games from the MaxiMite work on the MicroMite eXtreme?

Thanks!
