As I remember, version 1.1 was NEVER released!! It was FIRST usable in Australia as Dos ver 3.0 which 99% of the time didnt load. Version 3.1 worked, of sorts. I started with Dos 2.7. ALL MY work was done on Unix .76 and I built multi million dollar machines for the aussie government on Perkin Elmer 3216 and 3205 main frames. Core memory and tape drive load of OS. NOT 8 inch Shugart single sided 180 K floppy drives. As Dos was Joe |

Hi Joe, All, I had (note HAD) a copy of "windows 1.0 (or 1.1) with multimedia" that I got with a CD burner drive (SINGLE speed) I bought for a couple of $k way back when I wore short pants. I kept it for MANY MANY years thinking it might be valuable one day and then I got fed up with all my junk and tossed it away with a lot of other crap. So it did actually come out in AUS, albeit it was bundled . Regards, Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

Just a note re my experiences recently with WIN 10 updating. Have been using Linux Mint for years now and have found it to be very reliable. (have dual boot with WIN 10) While working overseas couple of weeks ago I had to use Win 10 on my laptop and forgot to disable updating (by indicating that the connection was being charged) and left it on while I went for evening meal. On getting back found that my entire 600 MB data quota was used up by WIN 10 update. Had to wait till next day to go and buy another prepaid data card for $20 just because of WIN 10 update policy. Not funny. Most WIN programs ( inc MMEDIT etc ) run well under Mint / WINE, but occasionally need WIN for some that don't. cs |

@joebog1 I also have a dual boot system on my workshop computer ( XP and Ubuntu) this post was about the family laptop. It is now back up and running although I had problems with my anti virus updates (Trend Micro) and I think that may have been the source of all my problems. I also had problems configuring Win 10 mail so have downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and is working well. Paul. It was only OEM. At that time (1981/1982 if i remember correctly) i was 17 and remember that those PC's were out of reach as they were very expensive. I did program on a few IBM's that had that version and if my memory is correct it only supported single density floppy that were about 70-80Kb. Only when 3.0 came out PC's became more affordable and with 5.25" 1.2Mb floppies. Also harddisks started to get bigger then 5Mb-10Mb. Backups were horrible to do back then. Microblocks. To all we/us Windows 10 users (for whatever reason...) Quick fix to disable auto updates - disable the Windows Update service! (turn it back on if /when you are ready for updates). Just remember there are potential security risks in not updating. Fix 2 - it is possible to set your network connection to a "Metered Connection" - yes, even Ethernet. This way you will only get security updates automatically, major feature updates only by explicit agreement. This requires a registry tweak - not that difficult for most people. Dr. Google can show you how, but if you want more specific info then PM me. I accept that Linux / Unix is more robust, but as with any operating system (Look at Apple - used to be rock solid, but no longer) the more you can/do with it the wider the window for unwanted stuff to fly in. I guess we can blame the Internet though My overall spin on the various OSs - HORSES FOR COURSES. (and don't forget MMBasic!) Cheers Brian P. |

You just sent me searching Mick; and I did find my copy of Windows 1.0. Not sure about the disks, but the manuals & box have survived. Note it also included 1.03 update. DOS 2.10 or 2.11 from memory. Phil. |
