1. I didn't see a need to backup when there are no changes or a need to Save and backup at the same time. As it stands, the backup timer starts from when you do any save. I think that includes save-on-load but I will have to check.
2. You can type in any extension you like. It would be as quick as selecting a type from a pull-down list and doesn't restrict the user. I occasionally save a txt files.
3. "Auto fill the current filename" is something that I have considered. I try to put the file name as a comment at the start of my programs so I can easily copy and paste but auto-filling has merit.
