What about something like:

'initialisation
DIM INTEGER prev = -1


and in function for key:
IF button <> prev THEN
      prev = button
      IF button THEN
             'BUTTON PRESSED!
      ELSE
             'BUTTON DEPRESSED!
      ENDIF
ENDIF
