Hmmm..

'AUKUS' - 'US' = 'AUK'  !!

Auks, you understand, are large birds including albatross etc.

A Great Auk was the largest flightless species, and
they were hunted to extinction about a century ago.

Incidentally UK's early nuclear sub was 'HMS Dreadnought'.
It had the fuel removed and was decommissioned 1980.
It is currently still too radioactive to cheaply dismantle
and sits idle rusting away at harbor in the "too hard" basket.

My guess is that the US will keep its prize technology secret
to itself (surprise, surprise) leaving AUKUS in a mess. To recover,
some recycled/putative UK stuff will be refreshed and re-released
from the US which then will be implemented as "US-designed".

Call me cynical, but Aus defence and technology management is
increasingly looking pretty sad.
