It now seems about 100 - 120 $ billion in the mix is allocated to the decommission and clean up of the [ed] subs and the reactors, in particular as the three used US subs cannot be refuelled. Apart from the cost, it begs the question of how it is going to done. Is the plan to send them to the US ? The US is already stretched for capacity. Is it to send them to the UK? I wonder if the US is happy with the design secrets washing around the UK defence establishments. And Aus does not currently have anything near the capacity to do it - unless the residents of Osbourne SA etc are going to welcome a massive teardown site. At the moment in Aus we cannot seem to manage dog piss - at least seeing how "companion animals" are allowed to excrete anything, anywhere, anytime, no matter what the basic health problems are - so I don't see how it is going to happen. With a bit of luck it will be cancelled - snafu ca-ching (again). I give it about 10% chance of seeing actual subs Edited 2026-08-30 14:36 by zeitfest |
