Once you register your copy, it is yours to use, as much as you like, for as long as you like.  No subscriptions.  Good old days of shareware. I'm totally with you on the subscription thing.  Many companies are doing that now, including Microsoft, and it is all cos they have worked out they can make more money long-term via subscription, then they can by simply selling you a copy or license. Unfortunately, I expect this to get much worse before it gets any better, as more and more software companies jump on the subscription band wagon.
