Just tested a MM2 and INV does not throw an error on COM2 if you do it like this:-
> OPEN "COM2:9600",inv as #2

The manual shows it should be like this OPEN "COM2:9600, INV" AS #2 but that gives:- Error : COM specification

Have not tested for actual inversion yet.

Now I see it in the manual, COM1 only!
