Yes I totally agree with you - very unlikely.
Try this program Program
It has the options you need to look/set fuse settings. But of course not if you cant read it.
I noticed a youtube video on repairing the common issues with the Nano series if you think there is a HW problem, I never looked at it, but I often see in the search list
EDIT: Forgot to add the program just unzips and does not install - stand alone app.
