Maybe your layout is not optimal (you can't expect good things when combining power and high frequencies on a protoboard) that there are high voltage spikes over drain/source or on the gates. Chance is that higher voltage rated mosfets could survive that, but this would not take away the cause. You want to probe the gate/source and drain/source of the mosfets, also look for cross conduction but this will be hard without the right tools.
