Ha ha ha. Yeah - I've been following that saga since the beginning. It's a testament as to how tolerant CBS and Paramount are that they let them get away with it as long as they did. After they raised over 1 million dollars and then just kept going back to the fans for more and more - all the while selling their own Star Trek branded merch.
I think the final straw was when they got too bold and started sub-licensing the Star Trek brand (and pretending they were legally allowed to it - which of course they weren't). They sold licenses for Star Trek Coffee, models, board games. Ignored a few cease and desist letters, and finally got sued.
The background story is even more fascinating - far too long to go into here - but wow - it's a roller coaster.
