you just have to be a bit careful... a friend of mine was using such modules and the time offset was terrible and could not be compensated with the native DS3231 methods on any of the 5 modules. We suspect that the chips were fake or rejects. I gave him one of my modules which i bougth a lot earlier and that workes flawlessly. His modules went directly into the bin.
A second problem may exist with your board if the battery used is a CR2032 (non-rechargable button cell !!!). There is a charging circuit comrised of the diode and the resistor (200 R) in the rigth upper corner of your foto. You should remove the diode, otherwise the battery will over time bulge and may burst. I found one shortly before bursting after 3 years of operation as i did not look for the charging circuit in the first place. The boom would not make much harm I think, but the chemistry could.
There are rechargeable buton cells available in the CR2032 format, but the chinese did not deliver them .... just cheap CR2032
