It's possible that you are asking in the wrong place. :)
Neither of the filesystems used were written for MMBasic by Geoff or Peter so they come with their own limitations, which may not be fully understood. Flash storage uses LittleFS by Christopher Haster and SD card uses FatFs by ChaN. It's quite possible that they have been tweaked for MMBasic but I don't know. They certainly don't work in the same way even if MMBasic makes them look similar.
