Some of us in Tasmania have had something similar for a while now.
Aurora will announce "Power Hours" and list a selection of timeslots. The latest was over the Anzac weekend. Before that Easter etc.
You choose the timeslot you want and you get that 2,3 or 4 hour period free.
Yes, I charge the car to take advantage of it.
I assume it is done to train us to be flexible with our power usage, ready for when time of day power rates become more prevalent.
