As an outsider, I saw the announcement of "free solar for 3 hours a day in Australia" to soak up otherwise curtailed solar output as totally a win for all. So I'm surprised to see the shade being cast here, and I'd like to understand it.

This seems like one of the most forward-looking programs for householders (not just homeowners) worldwide. And of course, those with batteries will be able to take the fullest advantage of it--if they're not already topping up with their own solar.

As far as the question about Time Of Use billing, what could offer a more complete TOU benefit than free?

Again speaking as an outsider, Australia seems to be doing things right more than any other country. This site asserts that "the total of all households in Australia that have solar panels [is] 40.07%".

A PV Magazine article today headlines Australia installs 400,000 home batteries in 10 months for 11.2 GWh.

Compared to the sickening state of electric-tech (outside of AI) in my home country, the U.S., Australia looks like a beacon of good sense.
