Step response is my point. In the real world it means a destroyed drive train or at best, an over current on the motor drive. Motors exist that claim a time constant of 10ms but this is free running. Now you need to couple it to an actual load...and reality sets in.
I have a publication, somewhere, quite fascinating; the required position accuracy was +/- 5 nanometres (!!!)
The total range of the piezo motor was 1mm and this was on zero friction air bearings. Theory dictates that the PID loop rate would need to be a minimum of 16KHz. In reality, it was achieved at 4KHz and increasing this rate did nothing.
Megapixels: Not too long ago, Canon reduced one of their cameras from 18MP to 12MP to achieve better image quality.
