I use crimp lugs on my connections, on my transformers the low voltage winding is fibreglass covered flat bar, so the lugs on it are crimped and soldered as well.
Solder lugs do fine too,
Years ago I bought a hydraulic crimper on ebay, it can crimp from 10mm to 320mm so does all the big connections I want to do.
Be wary of ebay lugs though, some are very thin metal and the lugs tend to break easily.
