This is an uneducated guess, but based on what I've seen, your right. I think you need to get more torque capability in there, and as you said, a larger dia. will do it.

After I decogged the F&P, there was a noticable difference in the effort required to turn it. The Eco Innovation claim a reduction from 900-950 to 450-500 after decogging.

Yes you are close this one is 2 feet height and 18" in dia. To decog it did you just file down each finger. I have a smaller version and this one seems to always spin in little wind. But its not loaded yet. Just thinking of putting a little one in it to power up some leds for fun. I used 3/4 shaft and 2 bearings to watch Glenn said. works good that part anyhow.
