I'm pretty sure my original W7 was unipolar.
I run the 8010 unipolar too.
The more recent PJ boards I have seen have been bipolar.... I thought they were unipolar too.
The 8010 can run either way as well. ( jumper)... like this.

Edit Solarmike, I would very much like to see your diagram..... it makes sense, and leaves the drivers native.
