We are not that far above 50Hz, so just about any multimeter should work quite well for this method. You might like to try higher values of series resistor. That will drop the amplitude, but may very slightly sharpen up the peak. Probably will not make much difference, but worth a go. All this is easier with good test equipment, but it becomes much more difficult trying to improvise. Cheers,  Tony.
