Apologies if I should already know this but is it possible to simply dump a code text file through the console port and if so, presumably there is start/end character involved?

Yes. Use AUTOSAVE command.

On your MM at the command prompt, type AUTOSAVE and press ENTER.

>AUTOSAVE

Right-click and PASTE your text into the console window, or if you are using GFXterm, right-click/Paste>/From text file.

Watch the code stream over the console.
When it finishes, press and hold [CTRL] and press [Z] to end the transfer.

Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops!
