I am posting for the first time here , ..Having set up a 7ph. 2 pole system satisfactorally , I thought I would go one better and buy a new ,late model rotor .Did that , now the energy needed to rotate the new rotor is far greater than with the old one , very disapointed , is there something I have missed with the setup? I bought that new rotor[part no.420774p]because it was supposed to make the motor "cogless", well yes I suppose it does , but as it is now it would need to be a gale force wind to turn the thing so I will have to put the old one back on it seems . Hi eddy, I am still waiting for my new rotor for the 7phase conversion. If you wired for the original rotor, then this will be wrong for the new rotor. Is it possible you somehow have shorted coils somewhere? It may be better to look for an older thread re 7phase and double check the wiring. You can follow up on say this thread 7phase. Hi Eddy I have to agree with Gordon. If you have rewired the stator for 7 phase, then it will only work with that new hub. A 7 phase conversion will not work with the older hubs. That said, it should spin freely with no load. Sounds like there is a short somewhere, something's not right. If you can, seperate the star center points, where all 7 wires connect together. gordon and glenn , thanks for the replies ...thing is that the old rotor spins along great . and gives plenty of volts . ran it up with a drill and the meter read 15v. so surely the winding is correct ? Perhaps tomorrow I will bolt on one of my old stators [I have several spares ] and see if the new rotor is any better there .....Just annoyoing after the $80 spent and the expectation of improvment , but no big deal . will let you know how it goes with the old stator installed . regards peter eddy |

Hi Eddy Trust me mate, something is wrong. The 7 phase conversion is free spinning and cogless, and on my tower gave better watts than a standard 3 phase. Its a big job converting the stator to 7 phase, easy to get wrong, and it will ONLY work with the new 48 magnet hub. ok Glenn, I will take the stator over to a bloke I know who is in the electrical game in the morning and get a thourogh check over , must be crook somewhere ,will let you know the result ,,,Peter eddy |

Hi eddy, your sparky mate has to be familiar with what is required. The wiring of a 7phase 2pole stator that works with the older rotor you mention. I believe you are talking about a 7p2s rewired stator. I have one of these as well. This is not a 7phase rewire. I am in the process of rewiring an 80series stator for 7phase. This is quite different to the rewire for the old rotor. I suggest you read the previous posts and the article by gizmo on the 7phase rewire. The new rotor with a 7p2s rewired stator will present as a complete stuff up, with symptoms of shorted turns. You have to make a completely new rewire. There are quite a few different formats that will work. All rewires for 7phase will require every pole to be separated and rewired. None of the original series pole wiring can be used, without cutting. I used the unwinding of one turn to allow connection to the next pole. The link I provided above gives a photo of another optional way. Gordon. PS edit: If you were a bit closer, I would take the new rotor off your hands in a snap. I have been waiting weeks now for my new one. There must be a shortage from demand by F&P windmill owners. become more energy aware |

Glenn, the rewire I did is as described on the page F&Prewire ..."7 groups of 2poles star configuration ". As yet have had no time spare to get any further checking done from the electrician, I apreciate your help , regards peter eddy |

Glenn, another query I have , one of the stators i got from the dump was from a smaller machine but had much heavier gauge windings , this is the one I cut up for the rewire , I notice you mention the "80 series stator" is that the heavier one or ,if not how does one decide the difference [from the model number on the machine body ?] and which is the prefered stator to look for ? .sure is a lot to learn here !! regards peter eddy |

Gordon, that is the way it is ,,,the 7phase rewire job as described [7groups of 2 /star config.]which I have done ,will not work with the new rotor , I read that it was a further improvment to use the new rotor with the above , or should say I thought that is what it said .Anyway no harm done , the rewire is very much better than the original , not a lot of cogging and very little drag on the system when connected to the battery ,whereas the original sytem really loads up when connected .Thanks for the input , I am going to attempt to do the correct rewiring job later , when I am clearer as to what is required and which stator is the best one to use [like can I use the ones I have that have rather thinner wire than the heavier one I was lucky enough to find originally ,don't know what the model designation is ] regards peter eddy |

You are saying that you have rewired a thick wire[100Series] stator to the 7p2s configuration. I use a 100Series wired in delta on a 24V system. I have not rewired it. This has 14 coils in series. You only have 4 coils in series, in the star config. A windmill, even on 12V will have a very late battery charging cutin. This may be OK for hydro at 700-800rpm. Can you confirm this?
