Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Sorry I might of missed the post.

What types of USB keyboards are guaranteed to work on the CMM2. Also can you use a USB to PS2 adapter so the keyboard will work on the original colour maximite.

Hey Ric.

You keep posting threads in the wrong place.
This one should have been posted in the "Microcontroller and PC projects" forum, where it is likely to get more posts.

The Guest Book forum is just for "Gidday, how are ya?!" kinds of threads or to introduce yourself to other forum members, or to just post comments about your visit to the forum etc.

Moving forward, please, please, please - post your threads in the correct forum, and avoid posting the same thread twice.  Cheers.

Anyway....

Your keyboard question is covered in the manual, so you really should have that handy for answers to simple stuff like this.  Page 11 of the user manual states the answer to your question:

  Quote  USB Keyboard Connector

This is a Type A USB connector. It will accept a standard USB keyboard including most that have a wireless dongle for the USB connection. Note that you cannot use a USB hub on this port or keyboards that have both a keyboard and mouse function. The latter will not work because they have a built-in USB hub to support the two different functions.

Typical keyboards that have been tested and work include Logitech K120 or K270 or K400+ or K800, HP SK2885, Lenovo KU-0225 and Microsoft 600

When the keyboard is connected or on startup the Colour Maximite 2 will enumerate the keyboard and if this is successful the SD card activity LED will be illuminated. On the first access of the SD card the LED will revert to its normal action (illuminated during SD card access).

The firmware can accommodate a number of different language layouts including US, French (FR), Spanish(ES), Belgium(BE) and German (DE). This detail is requested by MMBasic on the first startup of the computer and can be later changed using the OPTION USBKEYBOARD command.

Generally speaking, MOST standard USB keyboards that DON'T have extra function/multimedia keys or extra USB sockets on them etc will work.
As the manual states, plug in your USB keyboard, and if the firmware was able to detect and initialize it, the SD card LED will light and stay lit.  If the SD card LED does NOT light up and stay lit at power-on, the firmware was unable to talk to your chosen USB keyboard, so try another unit.

The original 8-colour Maximite does NOT support USB in any flavour, so you must use a PS/2 keyboard with that unit.  They do not support USB keyboards and never will UNLESS the USB keyboard happens to be PS/2 compatible, but generally speaking, USB-to-PS/2 adaptors on a USB keyboard plugged into an original 8-colour Maximite won't work - you will need a PS/2 keyboard for those units.
