Hi from a UK newbie. I'm not new to EV's or electronics, high mpg vehicles or basic wind power but I am working on a home built Savonius using an LG washing machine smartdrive type alternator. What a lot of great info on this site about a myriad of things, but in particular the F&P drives!!!! I learnt more in 2 hours on here than I could have hoped to have learnt with years of tinkering! Please please don't shut it down. Just ignore the moaners, I am very greateful to this site and many like it which cater for enthusiasts worldwide. ![]() ![]() ![]() Gen1 Honda Insights. |

Hi retepsnikrep, welcome to the site. I agree with dwyer, would be very interresting to see how your windmill goes with the LG washing machine motor. They look like they should work just like a F&P, but different, if you know what I mean. You should be able to apply the same tricks and tips we use on the F&P for your LG. I used a F&P on a vertical windmill, a small Lenz2 windmill, and it worked ok though the windmill was too small to make anything over 40 watts. Keep up posted. I shall initially be using a two stage oil drum rotor. (two drums stacked and ofset 90 degrees) fairly low rpm setup, so I intend to leave LG rotor in standard 3 phase high voltage mode to get some output at low rpm. I will do some output testing in my poor and turbulent wind location but will be happy if I get 50-100w. I will try some caps across phases and possibly the 3xtorrodial transformer setup if output is good enough. I am interested in the MPPT if it works ok and a workable solution with common parts comes out of the lively discussions on here ![]() I'll post some pics in next couple of weeks, I am waiting for some machined parts to mount stator/rotor etc. Ref the earlier questions regarding my EV, all the answers are on my pages at www.solarvan.co.uk.
