Alternative energy is something that I recently found to be very fascinating. I have watched most all of the videos on DYI solar and wind power on youtube. I have a small machine shop in my garage with a smithy lathe/,milling machine. A few wood working tools too. I have made a couple small steam engines and have more in the works. This last week I went up on my roof and took the satellite dish off, brought it down and mounted it on a wooden stool. I then covered it with aluminum foil. Its not bad for a starting toy. It will cook a hot dog or make a bottle of tea. My goal is to build a solar boiler or power a sterling engine to run a fan and push air through a solar space heater for home heating. |

Hi Mike Welcome to the site. Have a look at mylar, the silver reflective stuff thats sticky on one side. I remember seeing a video once of a young fella who covered a 10 foot dish with mylar and could ignite 2by4 lengths of timber. Tracking the sun will be the biggest challenge.
