wondering if anybody has had experience using a small cheapo bunnings arc welder with a Mod sine wave inverter. just planning on doing little jobs no more than 5 mins, inverter is a 2000w cont think surge is 4500w, the welder is 160a output max.

have done it but welds are not the best I've done try and see let us know Mick.

yep done some seriouse welding for a 3 tonne excavator on my farm last spring, good sunny day and 660 amp hrs at 24v connected to a solar 4000w surge 1650 continuouse inverter,
worked realy well but sugest lots of prep and pre-heating job prior to welding, i used carbon rods at 120 amps it ran for more than an hour in total, i took a few breaks to let things cool down in between but all went well
