Hello all,

Since coming across this site I have already built one F&P wind turbine and have started a second. Now I have another itch. I am considering building a CNC machine.

The kit on offer at www.mechmate.com is the dream yet I am worried I do not have the technical skills yet to create such a thing.
The kit on offer at http://buildyourcnc.com I believe will be an easy build yet I am not sure wether it will be capable of performing tasks such as carving windmill blades or carving a lump of aluminum into a box.

Has anyone else got any thoughts or other recommendations.

Thankyou.

Have you seen my CNC page at http://www.thebackshed.com/cnc.
Check out the link to Ocean Controls, they sell steppers and microsteping controllers for a good price. There also now cary a range of servo motors and servo amps, about 3 times the price as steppers but worth it if you want to get serious.
For software I use the Linuz EMC2 software on Unbuntu, its fast but not very user friendly. I also recommend KCam.

Cheers Glen,

I have checked out your CNC machine. Did you design the device yourself or does a kit exist for your machine?

Thankyou

If you want to build your own CNC, you NEED to check out www.cnczone.com

Their is an astounding amount of info on there, and an entire section devoted to DIY CNC machines. They are several downloadable measured drawings, 3D renderings etc.
