Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I'm spinning a plastic wheel imbedded with 1/4" neo magnets

Hi Mac.

QUESTION:

Why plastic? Would metal not be better? I think plastic would flex as the flux increases. The mags may even strike the coils.....

aussepom;
The gauss reading is the ‘field strength’ of the magnet , ‘grenbelt posted a pic and some information on calculating the voltage, I have no idea where he got this stuff from, I would be interested to know.

I copied this post from an earlier post in this thread, (see page 1), at the bottom.

MacGyver;

Electro magnetic induction;
The unit of electric pressure called the volt, is the electric pressure produced by cutting 100,000,000 lines
of magnetic field per second.
an example, A coil of 50 turns cuts 100,000 lines in 1/100
second will generate 5 volts. this info comes from a book
that was written in the 1930s,
( AUDELS MATHEMATICS AND CALCULATIONS FOR MECHANICS. )

The Laws of Physics do not change, Though this method may be considered obsolete, it is-was, the basic framework for electrical Engineering. The Iron filings are only a visual representation of the force field , It is not 3 dimensional as the field would be, so is not a complete picture.
The Gauss Meter is a very old piece of testing equipment and in old terminology, The Gauss Meter was used to measure magnetic lines of force,-Flux

And you use them like this:

And, if you want a name like: "Glenn said:", then the "start quote tag" must look like this:

[quote=Glenn]Actually, Vasi said: "this is a quote which continue on any (should said "on as many rows you want") row, and end with a " [/quote]Edited by vasi 2010-06-12

That is useful when you quote many users (or sources) with all their text or only paragraphs.

For quoting only one user, press "quote" button from the upper-right corner of the post in question. It can be also one of your previous posts. If you want only a part from that post, you can modify it but take care to not erase quote tags by mistake.

Ok, sorry for "off topic" and big font used...

P.S. It was for MacGyver but I'm glad if is useful for you.
