Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

This is a test of Google Chrome as a browser running
under CRLFVista64. I notice that chrome has attempted to
show that there is a spelling error on the line above.

Here is a test upload of a picture.

Here is a test link to the same uploaded picture.

This is about all I do, so will see what it looks like.

Gordon.

PS the display of the picture has not worked, but the
link appears to have. This will be a way for others to
get pictures onto the forum.

PPS It looks like Google Chrome has more issues.

I am editing this post from IE8 now. There is an error 404 when trying to access the stored file.

Here is the file link from IE8

The automatic adding of line feeds and returns by browsers explains why so many links posted don't work. A case of software trying to be too smart.

There are problems with chrome interpreting the scripted text in the forum controls.Edited by GWatPE 2009-10-10

And they wonder why web developers charge so much.

A lot of people get caught up in the security hype of different browsers. It might surprise many that currently IE8 is rated as the most secure browser, though I'm sure it wont be long before Firefox takes the lead again. Safari and Chrome rate very poorly. Admittedly Chrome is officially a beta program, but Safari should have sorted out its security long ago. Luckily Safari is on a "fairly" secure OS. Firefox 3 on a updated Linux machine is probably the most secure combination.

But its really up to the end user, and the sites they choose to visit.

I miss Netscape 3.0 Gold

The link is broken to when i tried it.

I hate chrome and find it causes more problems than it fixes.
I have had no problems using IE and Glenns instructions with posting to the 4M.
If the photos were to big in size then they were rejected but once downsized everything worked fine.

OK, this was posted with Chrome. I've changed one of the text box attributes to a non-standard value that should fix the problem in chrome. I cant test this in Safari, so if a apple user could try it that would be dandy. IE and Firefox should not be affected, fingers crossed.

I'm still working on the occasional image upload bug. If you "reload" the screen, it works the 2nd time.

Is about the screen with the error? That must be "reloaded"?

Hi Vasi, thanks for testing that.

The error is a 500, script error thats caused by a sleepy dll file. I've got a fix that test fires the dll inside a error trap just before its needed, its working on my test server but I want to make sure before I upload it.

Hi Gizmo,

using chrome again to test the wordwrap and picture uploads and insertion of hyperlinks. The wider post window makes a difference.

Here is the test link that failed above. test link

here is a test picture.

All tested OK.

Well done Gizmo. !!!!!

MacGyver should have no problems now.

Gordon.

MacGyver's eyes are each wide open about as big as pie plates and his jaw is on the foor after reading this page.

I haven't the slightest idea what any of this means.

So, here's hoping things work. Like I said, if all else fails, I'll just post stuff at an alternate URL and use a link. I wish I could be a part of the solution, but I'm absolutely clueless!

I'll stick to the nuts and bolts side of this if it's alright with everyone else. Edited by MacGyver 2009-10-11

HEY! LOOK AT THAT POST!

The sentences go margin to margin; no more narrow text-box stuff. Looks like you're onto something, guys.

Good work!Edited by MacGyver 2009-10-11

Hi MacGyver,

now would be a good time to check links and picture posting as well.
