Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hey Guys.

We had some server issues this morning, they spent a few hours getting it back up and running. Might need to move to another server company in the near future, so there may be another outage.

To many onion layers.

So, I have a mate who runs all my servers, I pay him. He buys the server space from a company based in Sydney. Lets call them Company A. Turns out, Company A buy the server space from another company, Company B. So by the time it gets to me, its been through at least 3 businesses, that I know of. Lots of middle men.

Couple days ago my mate got a email from company A to say Company B had gone into receivership, and Company A would be relocating all the servers to another Company ( D? ). But instead of giving us a notification of when this may happen, they just started transferring stuff last night without warning. I first noticed about 11pm last night when my mates email server went down, let him know, and went to bed. Seams he spent all night till 7am trying to get the servers back up and change all the DNS stuff.

This also affected some of my business clients, as I host their workshop software ( JAQ ) on these cloud servers. We got them going by 8am, thought there were a heap of DNS propagation delays. Got TBS up mid morning, but again DNS took longer.

At least no data was at risk, its was just the unexpected time frame and DNS issues.

Thanks Glenn. Site running very well at my place. Was getting a tad slow at times at getting to the end post of a long topic.

What does "australian based" mean, if software is in the cloud ?

There can be a web server, an application server, a database data server,
a database connection software server, yada, yada...each in different legal
jurisdictions..with leaks.. Not an issue for browsing of course, but anyone considering using TBS to distribute/interact with software users has to know.

The servers are in Australia. Thats all.

The "cloud" is a generic term that often gets misunderstood. In simple terms, you are using a server that's using a internet connection to access. Some server services like Google, Azure, the server could be anywhere on the planet. But I use a server company where I can choose where the server is located.

I prefer to use Australian servers ( server farm in Sydney ), its local jobs, the money stays in Australia, and its faster for Australian users.

The web site all lives on one server, nothing special. For a while there it was on a PC on my office floor.
