Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I've just uploaded the latest version of GFXterm to the document register:
http://www.thebackshed.com/docregister/ViewDoc.asp?DocID=22

talking to network-connected micromites is now 'officially' included. thanks to tassyjim, grogster, and phil23 for making their mites-on-the-net available for testing this out, as well as to all those who helped verify that GFXterm was able to connect from a variety of places.

please do let me know that this version works ok - ie, that i've not broken anything! there have been quite a few other small tweaks made, and one can never be 100% sure of there being no unexpected side-effects.

addendum: updated again (6-jan) to fix a few small foibles in the networking, and to substantially reduce the CPU load when scrolling the screen. the speedup comes at the cost of a possible slight flicker introduced to the status bar when it updates.

cheers,
rob :-)Edited by robert.rozee 2018-01-07

I've just uploaded a new version of GFXterm to the document register:
http://www.thebackshed.com/docregister/ViewDoc.asp?DocID=22

the major issue this version fixes is:

some installs of Windows Vista and later (7, 8, 10) do not have the Terminal 9pt font accessible to all programs, causing a much smaller font to be automatically substituted by Windows. the exact reason for the missing font is unclear - it seems to be quite random, with the font sometimes even reappearing for a while before becoming inaccessible again. the problem adversely affects both GFXterm and Teraterm, as they both use Terminal 9pt as their default font. in some cases it also affects the Windows console.

GFXterm now detects if Terminal 9pt is missing, and substitutes an internal font that is very similar to Terminal 9pt. there is also now available a selection of EGA and VGA fonts (again, held internally), selectable from the right-click -> 'screen font' menu. note that none of these fonts are installed to your computer, being loaded into RAM only while GFXterm is running.

to make it a little easier to read characters at the top and left edges of the terminal screen i've also added a 2-pixel wide black boarder on all edges.

cheers,
rob :-)Edited by robert.rozee 2018-01-24

Hi Rob

No issues noticed here (yet..)

Brian P.

P.S. I hope your "black boarder" was a willing participant!

oops

she was:

as the border was only 2 pixels wide i only needed a tiny bit of the boarder's fur to complete the job - she hardly even noticed.

cheers,
rob :-)

Joking aside though, cute cat.
