Dontronics Closure

I will be closing Dontronics down, and have a tentative closure date at this stage of the 30th of June 2018.

At 75 years of age, it is really getting beyond me. After being in business since 1964, I have to shut down as my two daughters don't have an electronics background, and have other business interests they wish to pursue.

Glenn has given me his approval to place this notification and advertisement on TBS forum.

I wish to get rid of all stock by this date. I don't wish to advertise individual items but will invite members to make private offers to me on any item. Many items are currently heavily discounted.

In the last two years, I have greatly reduced the range and stock levels on products. I do have a lot of connector and header pins, etc., that would suit microcontroller projects, and am open to offers on bulk orders on these.

My current sales site is at:
https://www.shop-dontronics.com/
support2018@dontronics.com

Cheers Don...

Being in business from the year i was born. Quite an accomplishment.
I am from the Netherlands so i never had the pleasure of buying parts from your business but i do understand a business like yours is vital for people who want to learn and build electronics.
I bet a lot of people got into it because of you and your business.
If i lived in Australia i would offer to continue it.

Keep some of Mick's umites and stay around. :)

I tried and failed.
Prices were good (Microchip is in Thailand), postal services cheap and reliable but sloooooooow.
Our friends from China also beat every other product in price and shipping costs.
Moving to China is a bit much. :)

Yeah, time to rest up a bit Don... you've done your bit in a big way.

I am not a resident of those parts but DonTronics is one of those legendary names from the electronics scene... Everyday Electronics, Elektor... Bull electrical, Display electronics...

Most seem to have gone west and I am sorry to see DT go but happy its because of "natural causes" and not because it was a victim of the tides and winds of the changing business.

When I was a kid (10) I was always in Stan Reeds on Hillingdon Hill... that went west probably 30 years ago but he was instrumental in where I am today. DT is part of that era and the mass of surplus shops everywhere were just part of the landscape that have passed almost un-noticed... Linways, LB Electronics - Lou Bishop - where is he now? Many a happy hour spent in his shop... a singular wit with a brutal sense of humour.

White Wizzard hails from these parts too I think - he might remember some of the names above.

Henry's!!! when Edgeware Road and Tottenham Court Road weren't full of tat merchants... well it was tat but our kind of tat

I still have a Sharp calculator I bought on Edgeware road in 1985 ish... bunked off work for the day and went browsing at the modern book company on Praed Street (got a hard back TTL data book real cheap) and then wondered up to TCR and ER

happy days but all sadly gone.

Yes CB - long, long ago, far, far away (in a distant galaxy?) - when Amazon was just a river somewhere in South America and when if I needed a specialist book (i.e. anything WH Smiths didn't stock) I went to Foyles to find it...(and usually could)

Showing our age I'm afraid.

I must admit I hadn't thought through Mick's goods when I made the closure decision, so I felt I better explain that in more detail, as I just got a couple of small orders for Mick's gear.

The first member that attempted an order had their email bounce, so I have repeated the message below, which also explains the situation with Mick's goods. And almost without exception, people overpay postage on Mick's goods. Most items will fit into a single small package or even a letter.

Cheers Don...

Hi Frank,

Unfortunately, I can't discount Mick's gear. As a matter of fact, I haven't even spoken to Mick about the future of his goods at all, but he is aware I am closing down.

The prices are so small for Mick, as are the goods, I know we can knock off some postage for these small items. If you can let us know your location, Mick will get back with the postage cost, and Penny will advise on how to proceed with the transaction.

Cheers Don...

GDay All,

Sad To See Don Closing shop but I suppose we all deserve to enjoy retirement some day.

Don has off loaded a lot of stock and has generously offered to give me the rest of it..

BUT

I don't feel comfortable about that.. So Let's try give Don some beer money to kick off his retirement.

Here are some links to various items that have already been heavily reduced (some are absolutely crazy prices) but I have talked Don into offering a further Discount code of 50% off (These items only... The code wont apply to other stock he sells). Use code TBS in checkout.

USB-TTL Cables

USB-Serial Cable

USB Module

USE Coupon Code TBS on checkout to apply the 50% to the above items only.

Don would, for obvious reasons prefer to sell these in `packs' or groups of say 5 or more but he is flexible and if you cannot justify buying 5 he will sell what he can..

This is a last ditch effort here and what he doesn't sell he will offload to charity (BIGMIK?? or other most worthy cause)

I would like to offer our thanks for Don's efforts in the past and to say that I for one have always appreciated the support that he has done for not only me personally but the community in general. Dontronics will be sadly missed but Don will kick on forever,,

Let's all get together and buy out the remaining stock he has and give Don some beer money (I will be on my way soon after its sold, Don)

Kind Regards,

MickEdited by bigmik 2018-02-19
