This is amazing. I never thought a bird would ever let you get this close. Playing with bird. How cute. ![]() This is the same parrot that swears a lot in the other videos - such as this one. WARNING: - The link above contains offensive language, but it is hilarious. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

<wayoffforum>I love parrots, they have proven to me that intelligence is not based on size. Avian brain is arranged differently from mammalian brain and although my Jardine's Greater has a brain the size of a broad-ban, he is way smarter than any dog I have ever owned - don't get me wrong, I have seen dogs trained to do fantastic things but parrots and corvids are naturally intelligent - they show intelligent with no human inspiration. They are born entertainers too. so funny. Has anyone seen Eric the cockatoo? Be warned, the language is *nuclear* grade anglo-saxon - seriously it doesn't get any worse in the UK - but hilarious... seriously if you have ever been offended by football terrace language you should not watch these vids (and i am not talking about "the ref needs glasses") Enjoy (?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVzI6Gh08Ns https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dCzjyypmXg also... two slightly tamer favourites of mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM8aBESf8EI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUNECHCKWBc </wayoffforum> |

....and search YT for Pebble the Cockatoo. ![]() But Ruby's pronunciation is damn near perfect. The other ones need the subtitles, as it is sometimes hard to understand them. I note most people with a parrot, go for the African Gray. Is it the best one for mimicking? You seem to know your parrots. ![]() Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

yes afican grays generally (there are a few sub species) are superb talkers/ mimics but emotionally they are really needy. My parrot's vet have a grey called Lulu and she has to go to work with him - she is in a side room and in between every patient he just goes in and potters around for 30 seconds just so she doesn't miss him otherwise she screams the place down - it isn't "nuisance shouting" but rather genuine pining. I went for a Greater Jardine's because they don't bond as strongly and so are better if left alone for hours a day - ideal for working people. Still very affectionate but not likely to get stressed so long as they have plenty of room and toys. All parrots tend to be long-lived and bond with their chosen mate (yes - they choose you) very strongly... exhibiting incredible bouts of temper and jealousy - which is funny to us mammals and endears them further to us. I have had Noggin since 1996 and he only really lets me pet him, my two youngest sons are occasionally honored but he can be so devious in working out how to get that finger close enough for an attack, real subterfuge... drop the head and invite the scratchy neck game then... WHAM! like lightening... little sod. Just looking at that picture, he has tons more orange on his head and trousers and the curl of his wings now he is 22 years old. will take another pic.He says his name as clear as human with his little robot voice plus a few other phrases, mimics phones, various bleeps and alarms etc. To this day he does the Dig Dug (Atari arcade game) coin tune (first 2 secs here) among others to call you if he sees you sneaking up the stairs without him (he is such a grass/dobber - I always know when someone is coming upstairs ) and as a juvenile the end level music here to perfection except he put three beep-boop's at the end. |

"Oh Captain, My Captain" Anyway.... Thank you for that post, it was very informative. I have been seriously considering getting a parrot. The African Gray appealed cos of it's mimicking ability, but your comments are well taken. As I work for a living, it would be impractical to get one of those, as I could not take the parrot with me during work hours. I do like the look of your parrot. Green is a favourite colour of mine. What I would like the best, is this green parrot here. WARNING - More swearing parrots. Do you know what kind of parrot this lovely green one is? Smoke makes things work. I have a lot of parrots here nearly every day (green lorikeets), they are not the types that try and make any other sounds other than there own, I'm sure they swear at each other and always the same sounds before the fights and feathers start flying, Then I can swear at them for all the noise, I also swear when one of them run's across the keyboard in the middle of typing a password on the keyboard. ![]() These are all wild birds so I have no need for any cadge except maybe to keep them out of some place, All of them are reasonably friendly but only to Me or my Farther, if anyone else turns up the birds will not come around at all. Out of this mob I know about 20 or so of them, each one of these has an individual attitude Despite there little brains they work things out quite quickly and fun to watch what they get up to, some of it is not much different to humans. They do have there little domestic disputes. ![]() Most of them I can pick up but almost always get bitten a bit, a few of them I can pat, others will just land all over you. Fun to watch what they get up to, the other day one of them couldn't find a partner so it found the end of the broom handle quite attractive, either that or the broom handle couldn't argue back. How many can fit in a frying pan. ![]() At least with these they don't need us to look after them and they don't rely on the food we give them, they are free to get there own unless the weather has destroyed the local flowers and fruit. ![]() The king Parrots have been coming around for about 10 years and usually spend 6-8 months here then head off elsewhere. ![]() Just keep them away from electronics, Multimeters have nice buttons that need to be chewed up. Other components are not sunflower seeds.. Cheers Aaron Off The Grid |

LOL! Yes, those green ones are gorgeous. I would say that though, as green is my favourite colour, and that light green especially. Thanks for all the photos, Revlac. ![]() Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I don't want to be disrespectful. But seriously, topics like this don't belong in "Microcontroller and PC projects". This sub-forum is already hard to navigate and to find useful relevant information. I'm sure some would call it a "dogs breakfast". For the original poster Grogster. There is a "Miscellaneous/Other" sub forum, or you may even ask for a new "Humor" sub forum to be created. |

Uh oh - look out! The fun police are here. We all enjoy a giggle from time to time, surely? (rhetorical) However, I can see your point. ![]() As to your comment that the forum is hard to navigate and to call it(or suggest that it is) a dogs breakfast is nonsense. ![]() If you don't like it here....... I have no issues with the occasional off topic post, its good to bring a bit of humor into the conversation. I'll close this thread though, dont want it to get nasty. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |
