I found these today while hunting for something else: Small RFID reader with UART output for $1.55 including receive coil. Very small being only 20mm x 12mm in size, but with UART output(9600 baud according to other listings), and also an LED and buzzer output too. I have ordered three or four to play with. 'Morning Grogs, If I understand it correctly, you mount the little rectangular antenna in a "box" of some sort, connected to the little board (and to 5V etc) and when a card comes within ~7cm you get its ID. If the ID were transmitted over an HC-12 pair it could have interesting uses . . . Cheers, Andrew (The cards are well under $2.00 and yes there are other readers but this one is so small . . .) |

You understand correctly. It was the tiny size of this one which also got my interest. There is a ton of other readers to choose from, but I like this one cos it is so small you could shoehorn it into just about any existing project.Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

My modules have arrived, and they seem to work OK. ![]() ![]() Serial output is 9600 baud. The first one I tried seemed rather unhappy at 5v, but it works fine at 3v3. The specs say it can run up to 5v, but at 5v, it started drawing 300mA and got very hot. I expect I have damaged this one, and won't use it past bench-testing. I have three, so I will hook another one up to 3v3 only and see if it also has a problem with sucking excess current. It is not supposed to suck more then about 20mA. Smoke makes things work. Oh dear..... ![]() These units seem to be very unstable. Brand new one, running on 3v3, after about 30-mins, suddenly sucks 300mA and gets hot enough to fry an egg on it. Naturally, will not decode when that happens. I loved these things cos they are so SMALL mainly, but they don't appear to be reliable, and quite the contrary - rather unstable. I will go looking for something else. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Unfortunate... Grogster, add customer review on a product page, so others would know your expirience. |
