Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I have installed XP SP3 in a VM under VirtualBox, and have installed all three of my Windoze-only CAD softwares, and they run EXTREMELY well inside the VM.
What has REALLY amazed me, is that I can dial the RAM assigned to the XP VM right back to about 192MB, with only 16MB of video RAM, and the VM XP is still super-fast, and the CAD softwares still run flawlessly even with such low RAM resources....
Pretty amazing. For XP, I would never USUALLY consider LESS then 2GB for RAM and ideally about 64MB or so of video RAM.
Once running, and with the VM Guest Addons installed and running, it is incredibly easy to exchange files between the XP VM and the Linux filesystem.
This is really interesting, and a very impressive path away from Windoze that I am travelling.
I DID install a couple of the CAD softwares under PlayOnLinux and WINE, but I did run into some issues with compatibility(as had already been hinted at by other members here), and so I just created an ISO of my Win XP SP3 CD and installed that as a VM, and installed my Windoze-only CAD to that, and boy - they run faster then I have ever seen before on REAL hardware.
ALMOST ready to make the final switch to Linux. I just have to work out how to get network printers working, and how to see SAMBA shares inside of Linux Mint.
That's next.Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops!
