Android devices make awesome HMIs for MCUs. B4A supports USB-serial and they also have a library for the IOIO-OTG (pronounced yo-yo) MCU module.

I have been using B4A since 2011.
They also offer B4R (BASIC 4 Arduino) which is great for ESP32, ESP8266, etc.
