I think I might have to see a psychiatrist!

Everything from 0.9" to 9", everything from 170 to H7!

.... so much to learn, so little time.

Your problem though is your bench is too clean and well organised. Or is that just for the photo?

.. that's true palcal, when I'm stripping old DVD recorders or printers or whatever for bits, there is stuff everywhere!

Just keeping the 'mites all up to the latest rev software is a major task.

You ought to see what I'm sitting amongst in my so called office.
No, actually, you shouldn't.

I know I have a problem. I am the most untidy grot of a person I know. All my friends and my father are neatness freaks. I'm Not quite a hoarder, don't have the place filled with old newspapers and empty jam jars piled around the yard but I have a LOT of stuff everywhere in my shed and other places and an Inability to keep things tidy. I think it's a cross between sentimentality and putting an over value on things.

I had the arse out of my pants for a very long time and was brought up being frugal ( although in a VERY neat home) and now I have a quid, old habits die hard. It's more than just that though.  I have some sort of mental defect in this regard. There can be no other explanation. I see what people call a mess and I am shamed thinking I wish my space looked that good.

I was seriously wondering if Hypnotism could help me or if there was anything else that might turn me around. I try not to collect stuff, to throw stuff out and to organise myself but sometimes seems the harder I try the more I overlook and the worse I get.

I want to be clean and tidy, I just seem to have a complete inability to do so and it does get me down badly.

I always seem to suffer from that common problem among us techs - too much stuff, not enough bench-space.

I try to keep things tidy, but the mess just keeps expanding to fill the available space.

I guess I should try harder to keep things tidy!

I now have to box every thing up for the move. Hard part is boxing up all the
WIP's that cover two desk and three shelves so I can get back to them afterwards.

I will have a neat and tidy place for about three weeks. I can't be neat/tidy
much longer than that. I won't be able to remember the place for every things
place.

My Granddaughter is offering to take pictures with her tiny Polaroid like camera
and print on address labels for all the part bins.

She has no idea how many parts / type of parts there are.

But I do like the idea of even small pic's over text for the task.

YES! That is It!!

My shed is Full to the brim, and I mean that. It has a Mezzanine that is stacked literally to the roof!  there is a bit round the side and the back that is mainly out of site and I have been whittling that down.

I will give myself a small credit. We came here 2.5 years ago and I DID bring a lot of stuff I didn't need because I didn't know what I would want and what I would not.  Some I have used, a lot I have not and will not so it has been going. That's how I have got friendly with the scrappy.... who gives me more solar panels.... That I already have too many off and am running out of room to stack round my 9x9M shed.

Time to build another one!

I am planning to take out all the treasure from one side and then put in the shelving and benches I have and get it all organised. Once I get one side done I'll have space to do the rest without unloading it.  There is a whole corner of stuff up there that's not mine that I must  grow a pair and part with even though I have not been able to bring myself to it so far but can't stay there forever.

My father has steel shelving in his shed and he has a LOT of stuff in there but it's all neat and orderly and easy to find. Mine is a shipfight and I can never find a thing.

I REALLY want to change that.

I have got a LOT of those parts draws from my father whom is closing down his Business.
They all have writing on them and I was thinking they will be a chore to clean them off but labels are a great idea. Would make them all look the same on the ends and be clean and new. Till the first time I pull them out with grotty hands anyway.

If you need a visual / written record of anything (but not necessarily a printed copy ( although you can do that too!), I use my Tablet with a program called quick pic.  You can take a photo and then write on that photo with your finger or a stylus.  It's been very handy for things round the house. I can take a pic of say a room, write the measurements on the pic and I have a visual as well as written reference to take with me. If someone says what about this or that, you can show them the pic and see the way things are. That's been very useful many times when they ask things one does not think about.

One the other week when looking for a new bathroom suite was "how far do the tiles go up the wall from the floor and is the tap under the cistern or out and beside it?"
Would have never taken any notice but being able to refer to the pic... knew straight off.

I also do sports team photos every year and use it for that.
We take a pic of the team on the tablet and then the coach writes the players surname on the pic over each kid and we can reference that back to a team list.
Boy has that sped things up and removed any confusion and errors.

I find the tablet is also better for reference than a camera because the screen is bigger and easier to get detail out of and you can take it with you anywhere.

Some time back there was some work bench photos posted here, I have probably cleaned mine up several times since then, also got another workbench for my farther to use, (it was a road side pickup) easier to do that than clean off the other work benches, however this idea works but can't go on, there is no longer any room to keep adding more benches...same rule for the sheds, used to add on and then fill that up.

My work bench that used to be in the shed.... is now outside.

I think what has changed though (very little) the computer bench and electronics bench where two different places now, I think others might agree they now often share the same space.
