Hi All,

In this thread I started to get my Silicon Chip kit for ESP8266 to access to weather.
It works well but flashing its firmware makes all AT commands inaccessible.
I would like to re-flash the firmware to the default so I can use AT and thus use MMBasic (rather than the current Arduino code).

There are plenty of suggestions on the web but have any of you successfully done it?

Thanks,

Andrew

I have done it successfully (after many attempts to follow procedures from the web which didn't work).

I have found that the latest versions--3.0 and above--report successful flashing but then don't respond to AT commands. I use the SDK_V2.0 or 2.1 or 2.2 firmware and flash with the "ESP8266 Download Tool V3.4.4" (or later).

I use this USB module with the modifications as shown (the article talks about flashing the Annex software, but it works fine for the AT firmware too):

Here is my setup for the Download Tool:

For the blue 4Mbit module, I used this:

I hope these are the right images--I had much struggle to find a combination that worked, but then I successfully flashed a half-dozen or so ESP8266s--4Mbit and 8Mbit modules.

The only AT command that I have tried that I couldn't get to work was the one to receive the time from the internet.

Thanks Lizby,

I'll give it a go and report back. (Annex BASIC is what Panky uses so it might be good for that reason too).

Cheers,

Andrew

(PS: I'm thinking that I can always re-flash the unit to what I have now - it does work but only not in the way I'd prefer)
