I think we are going towards a
much more cloud centered paradigm .
Especially in computer land itself .
Some things will now run well in a browser
that not long ago wouldn't .
Perhaps the browsers themselves are the
big improvement .

We use this is school for Java and Python -- never thought to look for QBASIC before.

I have tinkered with BBC basic of windows and Russel has just recently created a web browser version.   It is coming along just fine.  He is amazing even as he is declining he is doing more than most do in a lifetime.  He is a hero to me like our developers. https://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/bbcsdl/wasm/bbcsdl.html

SOUND and ENVELOPE even work on His SDL BBCBasic on RPi  !
Also a hero to me ... And accessible and helpful ....
