Yes, BASIC lives! I made my living programming in nothing but various dialects of BASIC (Thoroughbred, DEC BASIC Plus, Wang BASIC, MS BASIC, among others) for over 40 years and it's still going strong at my old office since I retired a few years ago.

My staff, made up of a lot of new grads, used to come in all ready to use C++, Java or whatever and were dismayed to see that I used only BASIC. That is until they saw just what BASIC can do. Colleges teach CompSci students that BASIC is evil incarnate and should be avoided at all costs. It's up to us BASIC fans to set them straight!

100% agree.

I wrote process control software (circa 1991) in QBASIC - it is still in use today and I occasionally get asked to update it as all the incoming engineers can do Python, Matlab etc etc and they "freak out" when shown BASIC.  Problem is that many of the CS lecturers have never themselves used BASIC and their knowledge stops with a hate of the GOTO.
