Task Manager, when I can get it, shows a few tasks with .1MB per second, most with zero. This started, perhaps after a Windows Update, a few weeks ago. It occurs on several PCs, but of course is most annoying on the one I use most: i7-3520M, 1TB SSD, 12GB Ram (upgrade to 16GB on order). Lockup occurs from about one to several minutes. Mouse usually moves, but clicking does nothing and Alt-Tab mostly doesn't work. CPU and memory usages are negligible, and network is usually 0%. When it unfreezes, everything is normal for a while. This happens multiple times a day. I have a lot of programs open, and a lot of tabs in 3 browsers and 5 text editors--but a month ago this was not a problem. MalwareBytes reports no problems. Does anyone have any experience of the like, or any idea what the cause may be? PicoMite, Armmite F4, SensorKits, MMBasic Hardware, Games, etc. on fruitoftheshed |

I had not seen those--thank you. That looks like the right track, but instead of the storahci.sys driver that they talk about, I have iaStorA.sys. So more searching needed, but I suspect this is the right path (and now that I see that, it sounds vaguely familiar, but I don't remember the details). To further update, some suggested updating the SSD firmware. I searched and found that there is a "dashboard" for my 1TB Sandisk/WD SSD. I downloaded it and ran its analyzer, and it said that firmware was up-to-date and performance was normal. So back to trying to find out if iaStorA.sys may be the culprit, and what may be done to fix it. PicoMite, Armmite F4, SensorKits, MMBasic Hardware, Games, etc. on fruitoftheshed |
