I left the PM running on my new prototype on the bench for a full weak(with battery backup in case power failed), and pleased to report no lock-ups. Always ready to use whenever I switched on the monitor at random. Also pleased to report that the PM built-in RTC is very accurate, and you probably don't even need to worry about an external RTC module at all, PROVIDED your system includes battery backup by default - such as using 13.8v UPS with 12v gel-cell backup for example. When I did a spot-check, it was still second-accurate after a week. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

That's encouraging. Pity the Pico doesn't have a proper low power mode, it would make battery backup easier. Even so, even a couple of NiMH AA should give at least 24hrs backup, I think - that's quite a long time for something that's normally mains powered and the charging system can be pretty simple.
